Data Insights

Create interactive charts and visualizations to analyze your data. Transform your database tables into beautiful insights with AI-powered chart generation.

Data Insights

Data Insights let you create interactive charts and visualizations from your database tables. Transform raw data into beautiful, easy-to-understand charts that help you make better decisions.

What Are Insights?

Insights are chart views that visualize your data in different ways:

  • Line Charts - Track trends over time
  • Bar Charts - Compare values across categories
  • Pie Charts - Show proportions and distributions
  • Area Charts - Display cumulative totals
  • And more - Various chart types to suit your needs

Each insight view includes:

  • Interactive charts you can filter and explore
  • Key metrics and statistics
  • Automatic date range handling
  • Export capabilities

Creating Insights

From Recommended Insights

When you connect your database, our AI identifies tables that would benefit from insights. You'll see these as Recommended Insight Views on the Insights page.

To create a recommended insight:

  1. Go to the Insights page in your workspace
  2. Scroll to the Recommended Insight Views section
  3. Click "Generate Insight View" on any recommended insight
  4. Confirm the action (this uses credits from your account)
  5. Wait for the insight to be generated (usually takes a few seconds)

Creating Custom Insights

You can create custom insights by describing what you want to visualize:

  1. Go to the Insights page
  2. Click "New" button
  3. Enter a prompt describing the insight you want, for example:
    • "Show sales trends for orders over the last 6 months"
    • "Compare revenue by product category"
    • "Display user signups by month"
  4. You can mention specific tables using @ symbol (e.g., @orders)
  5. Press Enter or click Send
  6. The insight will be generated automatically

Example Prompts

Here are some good examples of insight prompts:

  • "Show monthly revenue trends"
  • "Compare product sales by category"
  • "Display user growth over time"
  • "Show order status distribution"
  • "Visualize top 10 customers by revenue"

Viewing Insights

Once created, insights appear as cards on the Insights page. Each card shows:

  • Title - The name of the insight
  • Description - What the insight shows
  • Table - Which table the data comes from
  • Last Updated - When it was last modified

Click any insight card to open it and explore the data.

Managing Insights

Duplicating Insights

To create a copy of an existing insight:

  1. Hover over the insight card
  2. Click the menu button (three dots) in the top right
  3. Select "Duplicate"
  4. A copy will be created that you can modify

Deleting Insights

To remove an insight:

  1. Hover over the insight card
  2. Click the menu button (three dots) in the top right
  3. Select "Delete"
  4. Confirm the deletion

Note: Deleting an insight does not delete any data from your database. It only removes the visualization.

Using Insights

Interacting with Charts

When you open an insight:

  • Hover over chart elements to see detailed values
  • Click on legend items to show/hide data series
  • Use filters to narrow down the data shown
  • Adjust date ranges to focus on specific time periods

Filters

Most insights include filters that let you:

  • Select specific categories or values
  • Choose date ranges
  • Filter by status or type
  • Search for specific items

Exporting Data

You can export the data from insights:

  • Download as CSV
  • Copy data to clipboard

Best Practices

Creating Effective Insights

  • Be specific - Describe exactly what you want to see
  • Mention tables - Use @ to reference specific tables
  • Think about time - Most insights benefit from time-based analysis
  • Focus on questions - What business question are you trying to answer?

Organizing Insights

  • Name clearly - Use descriptive titles so you can find insights later
  • Group by purpose - Create insights for different business areas
  • Review regularly - Update insights as your data changes
  • Delete unused - Remove insights you no longer need

Troubleshooting

Insight Not Generating

If an insight fails to generate:

  • Check your account credits
  • Verify the table exists and has data
  • Try a simpler prompt
  • Make sure you're referencing the correct table name

Chart Not Showing Data

If a chart appears empty:

  • Check if the table has data
  • Verify your filters aren't too restrictive
  • Try adjusting the date range
  • Ensure the table columns exist

Need Help?

If you're having trouble creating or using insights:

  • Try rephrasing your prompt
  • Check that table names are spelled correctly
  • Verify your database connection is active
  • Contact support for assistance
